BJP's massive victory in UP & its effect on upcoming presidential election in India

BJP's massive victory in UP, has has given them an edge for upcoming race for Rashtrapathi Bhavan...

President Pranab Mukherjee’s term is set to expire on 24 July 2017...
Presidents in India are elected through an electoral college, which consists of elected members of the Lok Sabha, the Rajya Sabha and the legislative assemblies of every state and Union Territory.

Every MLA of a state is given a fixed number of votes, which is proportional to the population of the state. Now, out of 10,98,882 votes in the electoral college, Uttar Pradesh has 83,824 votes. BJP's clean sweep in Uttar Pradesh, has made the BJP in an comfortable position to influence the appointment of the next Indian president.

President Pranab Mukherjee though  being received praises from Narendra Modi way back in 2014, he remained neutral in many cases such as NJAC, demonetization ,the issue of rising intolerance. He also earned credits for showcasing daring strength of rejecting 24  mercy petitions including that of Yakub Memon, Ajmal Kasab, Afzal Guru during his tenure, which earlier presidents hesitated to do so,  has not resulted his chances of contesting another presentational election.

The congress and the rest opposition too is not keen this time to support Pranab Mukherjee specially the response they received  from the president's office in the case of demonetization.
Narendra Modi was keen on selecting L.K. Advani has BJP's candidate for presidents office but since advani  ruled out that interest, it was Bollywood actor Amitabh bhachan who was in the eyes of Narendra modi. But the recent Panama case has sidelined his chances... As of now modi is looking at
EAM Sushma swaraj as BJP's first women president candidate.

EAM Sushma swaraj candidature will also pave way for electing foreign secretary S. Jaishankar as new EAM who has currently received 2nd term extension at the age of 62 and who is also modi's favorite diplomat.
